Seismic Performance of Heritage Clay Brick and Lime Mortar Masonry Structures

چکیده

This paper summarizes recent investigations into the structural and material response of ambient-dry wet clay-brick lime-mortar masonry elements, with focus on those used in heritage structures Historic Cairo. In addition to cyclic tests large-scale walls subjected lateral displacement compressive gravity loads, studies included complementary small scale panels specimens. It is shown that moisture can have a notable effect main properties, including shear compression strengths, brick-mortar interaction parameters, elastic moduli. The extent effects function governing behaviour characteristics as well between precompression stresses lead loss more than third stiffness strength reduction ductility. Simple cost-effective strengthening techniques, using textile-reinforced mortars, for enhancing performance low-strength element, are also considered this study. effectiveness approach illustrated quantified through additional small-scale wall simple analytical assessment methods be reliably adapted predicting specimens, terms stiffness, overall load-deformation behaviour.

Mechanical Properties of Clay Brick Masonry Bound with Hydraulic Limes and Hydrated Calcium Lime

Due to their physical and chemical properties, mortars made with lime are considered to be more compatible with historic fabrics than those made with artificial cements. This paper explores the mechanical properties of clay brick masonry bound with hydraulic limes of different strengths, and hydrated calcium lime (CL90-s) with no hydraulic properties. Masonry wallettes built with a CL90-s morta...

Influence of Mortar Water Content on the Strength of Lime Mortar Masonry

Water content affects mortar properties and the quality of the resultant masonry, however, it is often subjectively determined by the mason by assessing workability. This lack of explicit methodology and data, can lead to lack of mortar consistency and field performance, adversely affecting full uptake of lime mortars into mainstream technology. The aim of this research is to assist develop con...

seismic analysis of persian historical brick masonry minarets

according to high height and weak tensile strength of materials in minarets, it is necessary to study the structural behaviour of minarets under earthquake loading. therefore nine historical brick masonry minarets in isfahan have been modelled and analysed by applying the nonlinear finite element method for two cases: 1) the whole minaret, and 2) only the outer shell. results show that all mina...

Seismic and Restoration Assessment of Monumental Masonry Structures

Masonry structures are complex systems that require detailed knowledge and information regarding their response under seismic excitations. Appropriate modelling of a masonry structure is a prerequisite for a reliable earthquake-resistant design and/or assessment. However, modelling a real structure with a robust quantitative (mathematical) representation is a very difficult, complex and computa...
